Part I. Facts
- The lockdown in Santorini is to be held until 30th April 2020.
- Greece on 19th March 2020, when this is written, has 418 cases in total, with 6 resulting to death. The greek government has reacted rapidly to the first cases, shutting down schools, bars, restaurants and as of today most shops, for 15 days. Numbers of new cases look very encouraging but we must wait and see how the situation unfolds in the next 15 days. Then we will have one month until the end of the lockdown to further assess the situation.
- The virus poses a serious threat to the elderly and people with underlying health issues. All countries are taking measures to protect the high danger groups because some people will need hospitalization and if we all contract the virus at the same time, there is not enough capacity in the health system for everyone.
Part II. Wedding vendors
All wedding vendors understand the situation and will show the proper flexibility in order to help. Moving a wedding’s date is a complicated procedure and demands a lot of effort and coordination. April weddings are affected so wedding planners and vendors are taking the necessary actions to find alternative dates.
Part III. Brides & Grooms
There is no all-in-one solution so here are some guidelines:
- If your wedding is in April: Contact your wedding planner and try to find a alternative date later in the season.
- If your wedding is in May or later: Wait until 1st April to see how the situation unfolds, in order to make an informed decision. If until then things go well, there is a good chance your wedding will not be affected at all.
- You can modify your guest lists to protect loved ones who belong to the high danger group.
- Do not flood your wedding planners with emails. There is communication between vendors and we are already planning our moves to cover every possibility. We will know more in two weeks.
